I don’t normally share this kind of personal post on GoodLife Eats, so thank you for indulging me today. I usually focus on food and recipes, so pardon the brief detour from the usual content.
Now that Logan is in school full-time, I spend a lot more time in the kitchen with Madeline. Those one-on-one moments have been a true gift — a chance to deepen our relationship and get to know each other in new ways (no offense, Logan!).
Outside the kitchen, Madeline loves dancing, horses, reading, dress-up and swinging. She’s very much a girly girl, maybe because her mom is too. In the kitchen she’s completely hands-on and eager to help, never afraid of getting a little messy. When she’s not helping with food prep, she’s usually playing in the sink with a mountain of bubbles.

She isn’t as interested in the photography side of my work. I usually give her a toy or something to color with while I’m shooting, though occasionally she becomes a willing subject and helps capture the recipe moments.
Some photos happen purely by chance. Madeline loves to sneak little tastes from the table while I’m working. I adore her tiny, curious hands and how she thinks she’s being sneaky even when I spot her. The look on her face after sampling uncooked rhubarb — shocked by how tart and unappealing it is — was priceless.
Our rhubarb in the garden is waking up from winter, and I’m excited to experiment with more recipes using it this season.
I entered this photo of Madeline’s hands in the I Heart Faces challenge, themed “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes” — essentially anything but a face. I felt this image fit the prompt perfectly. The photo was lightly edited from the original using the Florabella Milk & Honey action.
