Anybody else obsessed with Pizza Hut breadsticks? I can’t walk into a Pizza Hut without ordering them. It’s a dangerous habit, especially since Pizza Hut and Target seem inseparable and I end up at Target all the time.

I never expected to replicate that exact flavor at home, but this recipe comes remarkably close. The dough is the simplest yeasted dough I’ve worked with—hands-on time is under 10 minutes. Be liberal with the olive oil: it helps give the crust that golden, slightly crisp exterior reminiscent of fried bread.

Fair warning: the dough is sticky and can make a mess of hand mixer beaters. A stand mixer will reduce the cleanup, but the beauty here is how quick and easy the method is without heavy equipment. I include metric measurements because I encourage weighing ingredients for the best, most consistent results.

Serve these with warm tomato sauce and imagine you’re back in a food court or grabbing a snack between errands—or simply enjoy them in the comfort of your kitchen. These are perfect dunked in marinara and impossible to stop eating.
Pizza Hut, consider yourself challenged.

Description
The closest homemade version to Pizza Hut breadsticks—soft, flavorful, and perfect for dipping.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1–1/2 cups (340 grams) lukewarm water (100 to 110°)
- 3 tablespoons (35 grams) olive oil, plus more for the pan and drizzling
- 1–1/4 teaspoons kosher salt
- 3–1/2 cups (418 grams) all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon instant yeast
TOPPING:
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon pizza seasoning
- 1/2 ounce finely grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Generously grease a 9 x 13-inch baking pan with olive oil, coating the bottom and sides.
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine all dough ingredients and beat on high speed for 1 minute with a hand mixer (or use a stand mixer). Scoop the sticky dough into the prepared pan and, with oiled hands, spread it toward the edges. Score the dough into roughly 1-inch-wide strips without cutting all the way through. Cover loosely with a towel or plastic wrap and let rest at room temperature for 60 minutes, until puffy.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). If the rise blurred your scored lines, re-score the dough to define the breadstick shapes. Mix the Italian and pizza seasonings and sprinkle over the dough. Bake about 25 minutes, until very light golden brown. Transfer to a wire rack to cool slightly. Brush more olive oil on top and quickly sprinkle with grated Parmesan. Once cool enough to handle, cut along the scored lines with kitchen scissors into individual sticks. Stand the sticks on end in the baking pan, touching if needed, and return to the oven for 5 minutes to warm through. Serve with marinara for dipping.
