Whether you call it a Cape Cod Cocktail, Cape Codder, or a Vodka Cranberry, this classic two- or three-ingredient drink is simple and delicious. It’s an essential item for any easy cocktail list and perfect when you want something tart, pretty, and refreshing.
Cape Cod Cocktail
I was looking for pretty pink cocktails for Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, though I enjoy a lovely cocktail any time of year. I used a raspberry-infused vodka that gives drinks a rosy hue and a subtle fruity note.
The Cape Cod, also called the Cape Codder or Vodka Cranberry, is delightfully uncomplicated: just vodka and cranberry juice, with optional simple syrup if you prefer a sweeter finish.
With a bottle of cranberry juice already in the fridge from another recipe, it was quick to put together.
Ingredients to Make a Cape Codder Cocktail
- Vodka – use your favorite brand. I like to support local producers when possible, but any good-quality vodka will work.
- Cranberry Juice – either sweetened or unsweetened will work. I prefer unsweetened so I can control the sweetness, adding simple syrup if needed.
- Simple Syrup – optional. Add this only if you’re using unsweetened cranberry juice or want a slightly sweeter drink. For a twist, flavored syrups such as ginger syrup add interest.
- Lime wheel – a lime wedge or wheel makes a bright garnish and adds a touch of acidity if squeezed into the drink.
Steps for Making a Vodka Cranberry Cocktail
This cocktail is built directly in the glass—no shaker required. It’s a straightforward mix-and-stir drink that’s ready in minutes.
Measure 3 ounces of cranberry juice and 2 ounces of vodka.
If using unsweetened cranberry juice, add ½ ounce simple syrup (taste and adjust if you prefer it sweeter).
Fill a rocks glass with ice, pour in the cranberry juice, simple syrup if using, and the vodka.
Stir for 20–30 seconds to chill and slightly dilute the drink. Garnish with a lime wedge or wheel. That’s it—you’ve made a classic Vodka Cranberry.
This is an essential easy cocktail everyone should know: tart, fruity, and visually appealing with minimal effort. It’s ideal for casual evenings, brunches, or holiday gatherings when you want a fuss-free mixed drink.
