Aunt Lou here. I adapted this dish from a Gooseberry Patch recipe in What’s For Dinner. The original was a marinade and grill idea, but I tried it in the crock pot and loved the results. This version is effortless and perfect for busy nights.

Ingredients for Crock Pot Garlic Ranch Chicken

  • 1 cup ranch dressing
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh basil, minced
  • 3–4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • Optional: additional minced fresh basil for garnish when serving

How to Make Garlic Ranch Chicken in a Crock Pot

  1. Combine the ranch dressing, minced garlic and minced fresh basil in a bowl.
  2. Place the chicken breasts in the bottom of the crock pot in a single layer if possible.
  3. Pour the ranch mixture evenly over the chicken so each piece is coated.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 4–5 hours or on high for 2–3 hours, until the chicken is cooked through and tender.
  5. Serve the chicken with sauce spooned over the top and a sprinkle of fresh basil, if desired.

Crock Pot Garlic Ranch Chicken Notes

  • If you prefer not to mince garlic, you can chop it, but increase the amount to 1.5 tablespoons to match the flavor of minced garlic.
  • I used a Hamilton Beach multi-quart slow cooker on the 2-qt setting so the chicken lay in one layer and was well covered by the sauce. If your slow cooker is larger, arrange the chicken in a single layer if possible. For taller, standard slow cookers, layer the chicken and pour a little sauce over the first layer, then add the remaining chicken and sauce so every piece gets coated.
  • Nutrition and calorie counts will vary depending on the specific brands and products you use. Adjust accordingly if you need exact values.
  • Slow cookers vary in temperature and performance. Use the suggested cook times as a guideline and check the chicken for doneness. Adjust times as needed for your appliance.
