Spooky Eyes Pretzel Bark
Author: Cookies & Cups
Full disclosure: I joined a gym. I’ve joked about disliking exercise for years, so this feels oddly traitorous, but sometimes you act on an impulse and end up signing up for a membership. I’ve been going for about a week now — not every day, but often enough that I’ve started to form a habit. Taking classes helps keep me committed; otherwise I tend to drift from one machine to another without any real plan.
One day I missed my class and hopped on the treadmill instead. There’s nothing more awkward than trying to use unfamiliar equipment. To keep myself entertained I daydreamed, and every single time I’m on a treadmill I imagine I’m in the Rocky IV training montage. I picture either Rocky running up a snowy hill with a yoke on his shoulders or Ivan Drago sprinting in a high-tech gym. It’s ridiculous, but it makes the miles go by.
When I’m pulled out of the daydream and glance down at 3.5 mph on the display, I still feel triumphant, like I could have defeated a cinematic opponent. I admit it: I may have muttered “I must break you” under my breath at least once for dramatic effect. So yes — I joined a gym. There, I said it.
Now for something sweeter: a fun, festive recipe I made recently — Spooky Eyes Pretzel Bark. It’s an easy, crowd-pleasing treat that’s perfect for parties or a playful snack. The salty pretzels balance the sweet toffee and chocolate layers, and the toppings add a fun Halloween vibe. You can make it year-round by changing the candies to suit any season.

The method is simple and similar to classic saltine toffee. Pretzels are spread on a sheet, a buttery brown sugar caramel is poured over them, and the whole pan is baked briefly to set the toffee. While the toffee is still warm, melt white chocolate and spread it on top. Follow with a layer of semi-sweet chocolate, then press on your toppings while the chocolate is still wet. I used candy corn M&Ms, mini Oreos, and spooky sugar eyes for a Halloween look, but you can change the decorations to match any holiday or flavor preference.

Tip: If you want the eyes to stay firmly attached, dip the back of a sugar eye into a small amount of melted chocolate and press it gently onto an Oreo or directly onto the bark. Chill the finished bark in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes so the chocolate sets completely before cutting into pieces.

Ingredients
- 6 cups mini pretzel twists
- 1 cup butter
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 3 cups white chocolate, melted
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate, melted
- Oreos, M&Ms and spooky eyes (optional) for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Line a baking sheet with foil and lightly spray it with nonstick spray or lightly grease the foil.
- Spread the pretzels evenly across the baking sheet. They can overlap slightly.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the butter and brown sugar. Bring the mixture to a boil and let it boil for 2 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent burning.
- Carefully pour the hot butter and sugar mixture over the pretzels, ensuring even coverage.
- Bake for 10 minutes, then remove the pan from the oven.
- While the mixture is still warm, melt the white chocolate and spread it over the pretzel-toffee layer. Allow it to set slightly.
- Melt the semi-sweet chocolate and spread it over the white chocolate layer.
- Press your chosen toppings—Oreos, M&Ms, sugar eyes, or other decorations—into the wet chocolate.
- Chill the pan in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes, or until the chocolate has fully set.
- Remove from the fridge, peel away the foil, and cut the bark into pieces. Serve and enjoy.

This recipe is quick to assemble and makes a festive, shareable treat. Swap the decorations and candy to match seasons or parties—peppermint candies and crushed candy canes work well at winter holidays, while colorful sprinkles and pastel candies are great for spring. Whether you keep it spooky or make it sweet and simple, pretzel bark is a crowd-pleaser.
Now, go make this—and don’t worry, no actual breaking required.
