This sticky chicken will quickly become a family favorite. It combines just the right spices with a spicy-honey glaze for a dinner that’s simple to prepare and full of flavor.

Sticky Chicken is an easy recipe that tastes like it took more effort than it does. The chicken comes out tender and juicy, and the sticky sauce keeps you coming back for more. It’s one of my go-to chicken dishes for weeknights and weekend dinners alike.

I enjoy recipes that please everyone at the table and don’t break the bank. This Sticky Chicken fits both categories: fast to assemble, economical, and reliably delicious.

How to Make Sticky Chicken

  1. Prep the chicken – Mix granulated garlic, granulated onion, paprika and chili powder in a small bowl. Season the chicken on both sides with the spice blend. Add minced garlic, olive oil, salt and pepper, toss to coat, then cover and refrigerate for 1–2 hours to marinate.
  2. Bake the chicken – Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Let the chicken come closer to room temperature if possible. Place the chicken covered in the oven and bake for 30 minutes.
  3. Make the sticky sauce – Whisk together honey, ketchup, mustard, soy sauce, hot sauce, salt and pepper. Brush the sauce over the chicken, return it to the oven and bake another 30 minutes. For a glossy, slightly charred finish, broil for the final 10 minutes, watching closely so it doesn’t burn.
  4. Rest and serve – Let the chicken rest a few minutes after removing from the oven, then serve warm and enjoy.

Expert Tips and Recipe Variations

  • Storage – Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to a month.
  • Reheating – Reheat refrigerated portions in the microwave or oven until warmed through. If frozen, thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating.
  • Adjust the heat – Use a mild hot sauce or omit it entirely for a gentler glaze. Add more hot sauce or crushed red pepper if you like it spicier.
  • Boneless option – Boneless skinless chicken works well and shortens cook time. Reduce baking time and check internal temperature to avoid overcooking.
  • Marinate longer – Chilling the seasoned chicken improves flavor. For best results, marinate overnight.
  • Make-ahead – Prepare the marinade ahead, coat the chicken and refrigerate so dinner comes together quickly.
  • Oil alternatives – Swap olive oil for another neutral or flavorful oil you prefer; just choose one that complements the recipe.
